Temp Drop Cold Plunge Chiller - 1/2 HP

What's needed

• Max volume it can hold at 39°F: Around 130 Gallons
• Cool-down time: roughly 3 hours to take 100 gallons from 70°F to 39°F.
• Works with: stock tanks, poly barrels, inflatable tubs, chest-freezer builds, hot tub shells, our own tub.
• You'll need: a vessel, two hose connections, and a GFCI outlet. If your tub has no ports, a bulkhead fitting or an over-the-edge hose run both work.
• Power: standard 110V. 

No drilling required

If your tub, stock tank or barrel has no ports, you do not need to cut or drill anything. Run both hoses over the rim. That is what most stock tank owners do and it works fine.

The hose ships as one continuous length so you can cut it to suit your setup rather than being stuck with fixed lengths. Clamps and fittings for both ends are in the box.

Two things that matter when running over the rim

• Keep the pump fully submerged. A pump drawing air will not move water properly.
• Keep the return line below the water surface. If the return sits above the waterline it aerates and splashes, which is noisy and warms the water slightly.

If your tub does have ports

Connect straight through them. Our fittings are 1/2 inch NPT standard thread, so if yours are a different size an adapter from any hardware store costs a few dollars. You can also fit a bulkhead through the wall for a permanent install.

What it works with

Stock tanks, poly barrels, inflatable tubs, chest-freezer builds, old hot tub shells. The chiller does not care what the vessel is made of. It needs water in and water out, nothing else.

The two things that decide whether it copes are volume and insulation. Stay under about 130 gallons. Metal stock tanks shed cold quickly, so shade or wrap yours if you can, and an insulated cover does more for you than any other upgrade.

What it does Not include

• A tub. This is the chiller on its own, so you supply the vessel. Stock tank, barrel, inflatable tub, chest-freezer build or hot tub shell all work.
• The upgraded 1100 GPH pump and pre-assembled manifold. Those come with the complete Temp Drop Cold Plunge Kit with 1/2 HP Chiller. The 396 GPH pump included here is sized for a standard home setup.
• A filter. Fit one before the chiller inlet. The complete kit includes a metal mesh debris filter.

The Setup

About 10 minutes.

Step 1: Set the chiller on a flat surface within 3 feet of your tub, with clearance at the intake vents.

Step 2: Run the outlet hose from the pump to the chiller inlet, and the chiller outlet back to the tub. If your tub has ports, connect through them; if not, run both lines over the rim.

Step 3: Fit a filter before the chiller inlet.

Step 4: Plug into a GFCI outlet and set your temperature on the digital display.

You supply: A vessel, and one standard outlet.

Chiller Maintenance

Monthly: Vacuum dust off the intake vents.

Always: Run a filter before the chiller inlet to catch hair and debris.

Water chemistry: Keep it balanced to prevent calcium buildup in the heat exchanger. (Try our water maintenance kit for everything you need to keep your water crystal clear.)
