Is this inflatable? Will it feel cheap?
Absolutely not. This tub is built with Drop Stitch Technology, the same material used in military-grade inflatable boats and high-end paddleboards.
- When inflated to 11 PSI, it becomes rock hard. You can sit on the rim, stand on it, and lean against it without it bending. It feels like a solid structure, not a balloon.
Why 1/2 HP when most kits ship 1/3 HP?
Because the chiller decides whether any of this works, and it is the part almost every kit under $700 economises on.
Horsepower here is not really about how cold the water gets. Both sizes will reach 39°F. It is about margin. A 1/3 HP unit has none, so it pulls down slowly and then runs close to flat out to stay at temperature. That gives you more hours on the compressor, more noise in the garage, and a higher power bill for the same water. Runtime is what kills compressors, which is why cheap chillers tend to fail in year two.
The 1/2 HP in this kit has headroom. It cools faster, cycles less, and spends most of its life idling rather than straining.
In a hot garage the difference is obvious, because a 1/3 HP unit stops holding temperature once the room passes about 85°F. In a mild one it is quieter, but it still shows up on your power bill and in how long the unit lasts.
It is also most of the reason this kit costs what it does.
How is this different from a $600 kit online?
Mostly one part: the compressor. Cheap kits ship 1/3 HP, which holds 39°F fine in a cool garage and gives up once the room passes 85°F. Ours is 1/2 HP, so July reads the same as January.
The rest follows from that. A high-flow pump instead of a starter one. Hoses cut and assembled instead of a coil and a bag of barbs. Five layers of insulation instead of one, so the chiller cycles less.

Will it hold 39°F where I live?
Yes. In fact, that is a main reason we started Temp Drop Labs. We know that standard 1/3 HP chillers often fail when the garage hits 95°F+. Our kit uses an oversized 1/2 HP compressor specifically to overcome high ambient heat and keep your water at 39°F, even during the summer.
Can I move it or take it with me?
Yes, and that is most of the point. Drain it, deflate it, and the tub packs into the included backpack. The chiller is a two-hand carry. Figure about 20 minutes to break the whole setup down.
That matters if you rent, if you move, or if you just want the patio back for a weekend. A rigid tub arrives on a freight truck and stays exactly where the driver left it.
What if I want a rigid tub later?
Then keep the chiller. It runs on standard fittings and is not locked to our tub, so it will cool a stock tank, a barrel, or most rigid shells you buy down the road.
The tub is the cheap half of this setup. The chiller is the part doing the work, and it comes with you. Plenty of people start here, decide the habit is permanent, and upgrade the vessel a year in. That is a sensible way to do it.
Is the kit hard to set up?
Not at all. Each kit includes a step-by-step guide and setup video. Most users complete installation in under 30 minutes— no plumbing experience required.
What maintenance is required to keep water clean?
Keeping your water clean is simple if you follow a routine. Because our kit includes an upgraded high-flow pump and a sediment filter, your water is already being filtered constantly. The rest is just basic water chemistry.
We recommend using our Water Maintenance Kit (featuring Sirona Spa Care & Hydrogen Peroxide) and following this schedule:
- Day 1 (Initial Fill): Once full, follow the instructions on the Sirona Sanitizer bottle to add the starting dose. Then, pour in 1/2 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide to "shock" the water and lock in clarity.
- Weekly: Rinse your pleated water filter and add a maintenance dose of Sirona Sanitizer (as directed on the bottle) to keep bacteria at bay.
- Quarterly: Drain and refill. Since the tub is efficient (98 gallons), this is quick to do with a standard garden hose.
- Pro Tip: Always keep the insulated cover locked when not in use. This blocks sunlight (which causes algae) and keeps debris out.
Can I use the plunge outdoors?
Absolutely, the system is designed for both indoor and outdoor use.
Just make sure it’s placed on a flat surface, protected from direct rain, and plugged into a GFCI outlet.

My only regret was not getting this cold plunge sooner. As a college athlete I was in the market for a cold plunge to help me during my off season workout and conditioning without breaking the bank. When I saw this deal it was too good to pass up and honestly I was a little skeptical of purchasing just because of how low the price was but I was beyond surprised.
